If you come to Hida Takayama, it would be a pity to just visit the old streets. Why not arrange a journey through time and space - Hida no Sato (飛騨の里)! This outdoor museum perfectly preserves the thatched houses and gassho-style houses of the Edo period, making people feel like they are walking into the warm scenes of the mountain village in the past.
It takes about 30 minutes by bus from Takayama City to reach the park. Once you enter the park, you will see a group of old houses scattered around, with drooping eaves, chimneys curling, and even the smell of firewood and charcoal-grilled snacks in the corners. The park occasionally holds traditional craft demonstrations, such as wooden barrel making, straw weaving, and hand-woven fabrics. You can also go into the house to taste seasonal Hida country desserts or buckwheat tea.
I especially like to stroll between the mountain forest trails, see the gurgling streams and towering ancient trees, and the houses in the distance are reflected in the clear water, which is as beautiful as a poem. You can also walk into the museum to see the living utensils of the ancients, wear rural costumes to take photos, so that the trip is not just about seeing the scenery, but also about experiencing how to coexist with nature.
This is also a good place to take children to explore culture. You can experience it by hand, run and explore in the ancient houses, and both parents and children can leave beautiful memories. Finally, with the nearby traditional workshop or fruit picking itinerary, this trip to Hida no Sato will be more fulfilling and vivid!
