Baekjeji Temple is one of the oldest temples in Omi Province, founded by Prince Shotoku in the 14th year of the reign of Empress Suiko over 1,400 years ago. Along with Kongorinji Temple and Saimyoji Temple, it is known as one of the "Koto Sanzan". It is also a famous spot for autumn leaves.
