A Japanese garden located in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture
This garden was established by Hirosaki City to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its municipal incorporation and opened in July 1991.
Originally, in 1919, Kenichi Fujita, the first president of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, had a gardener from Tokyo create this Edo-style garden when he built his residence there.
The garden covers a total area of approximately 21,800 m (approximately 6,600 tsubo).
The garden is divided into an upland area and a lowland area by a 13-meter-high cliff.
The upland garden is a borrowed landscape garden overlooking Mount Iwaki. It includes a Western-style building, a Japanese-style building, and an archaeological museum, all of which are registered tangible cultural properties.
The buildings are a valuable heritage harking back to the Taisho era.
The Western-style building features a scenic view. Many original artifacts, such as stained glass and window panes, remain even today.
The museum also features the "Taisho Romantic Tea Room," where you can try different apple pies. Be sure to enjoy!
The Japanese-style building is divided into two parts: the main room facing the elevated garden and the annex room with views of Mt. Iwaki, connected by a corridor.
The building is made of carefully selected materials, including solid Yakusugi cedar planks and discarded Kurama stone.
Exhibits include a Nanako-lacquered chest of drawers and a Kano school folding screen.
The lowland garden is a strolling garden centered around a pond. Enjoy the changing scenery, including views of the pond from the teahouse, iris and azalea colonies, a waterfall, and eight bridges.
