Hiroshima Castle - A Historical Landmark (Closed Starting March 2026)

Hiroshima Castle, located in the heart of Hiroshima City, is a historic site often referred to as "Carp Castle" (Rijō) due to its elegant and towering appearance. Originally built in 1589 by the famous warlord Mōri Terumoto, the castle was a significant symbol of power in the Chūgoku region during the Sengoku period. Although the original structure was completely destroyed in the atomic bombing of 1945, the current main keep was reconstructed in 1958 and now serves as a history museum open to the public.

The castle's exterior is restored in a traditional wooden style, and its interior features exhibits such as samurai armor, models of castle towns, historical artifacts from the Hiroshima Domain, and information about the Mōri family. The museum offers rich and interactive content, making it an excellent destination for travelers interested in Japan's Sengoku or Edo periods. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of Hiroshima City and Miyajima from the top floor of the main keep.

During spring, the castle's moat area becomes one of the city's most popular cherry blossom viewing spots, while autumn brings vibrant foliage to the castle grounds. Each season offers unique scenery to enjoy.
