A quiet and pleasant neighborhood near Fukuoka. A one-day trip to Hita, Oita Prefecture, Japan

– From Yufuin to a quiet town walk.

🚍 Transportation: How to get from Yufuin to Hita (Tips for using the bus)

There is less information on how to get from Yufuin to Hita than you might think.
I was worried, wondering, “Is this really right?”

But at the ‘Yufuin Interchange (湯布院インター)’ bus stop,
I took the Nishitetsu bus → I completed the trip to Hita. (Arrived about 5 minutes later than scheduled)
I was even more anxious because there was nothing around, but the moment the bus arrived, the driver shined like an angel✨

✔️ Fare: about 1,400 yen
✔️ Duration: about 1 hour 10 minutes
✔️ Look up the bus stop in advance and make sure to mark it with a star on Google Maps

🍱 [Lunch] Hitamabushi (ひつまぶし) Restaurant: Senya 千屋

📍Address: 6-31 Mamedamachi, Hita-shi, Oita-ken 877-0005
It's no exaggeration to say that you go to Hita just to eat this.

Whole eel grilled over charcoal

Eat the rice bowl in a wooden barrel 1) as is, 2) top it with gomyeong, and 3) finish it with ochazuke

Crispy and oily eel + special sauce are crazy

Although I went without a reservation, there was almost no waiting (the timing was good)

The staff was friendly, and the interior was neat and clean

⭐ Recommended menu: Hitamabushi set (around 3,000 yen)
🕛 Check the business hours and visit!

🍶 Visiting Kuncho Brewery (KUNCHO SAKE BREWERY)

📍Address: In the middle of the Mamedamachi shopping street
A traditional Japanese brewery. I don't know much about Japanese sake, but it's fun to look around.
The interior is preserved as a warehouse, with sake barrels, tools, and a steamy maturation space.

→ Honest review: If you're not interested in alcohol, it might be a little boring. Still, it's a good course to feel the history and atmosphere of Hita.

🏡 Mamedamachi Stroll (豆田町)

It feels like a 'Little Kyoto of Japan'.
There are traditional houses, canals, souvenir shops, and small fun things like cat toys.
✔️ Not crowded, quiet and secluded
✔️ The old souvenir shops and ceramic chopstick rest shops here and there are cute
✔️ The entire town is a photo zone

📌 Point:

It's perfect to walk around in a yukata

Actually, there are almost no people → Best for taking pictures
