Tai Kwun in Central was the early judicial and law enforcement center of Hong Kong. Surprisingly, during World War II, it served as an air raid shelter!
Beneath the red brick building, specifically under the stairs of the former Central Magistracy building, there is a mysterious entrance marked "Air Raid Shelter" in English. It was one of the air raid shelters used during World War II. Later, it was converted into prison cells. When Vietnamese boat people were detained here, many refugees awaiting trial were held in this place. On the wall of one prison cell, the original inscriptions made by detainees have been preserved.
Outside the exhibition hall, there is a QR code. Visitors can listen to the narration while touring the air raid shelter, making the experience even more immersive!
