Located in "Old Central," Tai Kwun is a sprawling architectural complex that once served as the site for law enforcement, judiciary, and correctional services in Hong Kong.
In 2019, Tai Kwun was awarded the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation and has since been transformed into a heritage and arts center. The complex houses preserved historical buildings such as the former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy, and Victoria Prison.
Visitors can freely explore Tai Kwun or opt for guided tours for a deeper understanding. The narrow prison cells of the former Victoria Prison once held thousands of inmates. While immersing yourself in the rich historical atmosphere of the heritage site, you’ll not only gain deeper insights into Tai Kwun but also uncover many stories that continue to be told.
