Review of Tin Hau Temple (Yau Ma Tei)

#HongKongTravel

Tin Hau Temple, or Tin Hau Temple in Yau Ma Tei, is one of the oldest temples in the heart of Hong Kong. It was built in 1864 by fishermen to worship the goddess Tin Hau, the protector of the sea and travel. Although it is no longer by the sea, it is still a center of faith for Hong Kong people.

The highlight of the temple is its ancient Chinese architecture, dragon-patterned tile roofs, striking red and gold colors, and the fragrant smell of incense sticks that waft throughout the day. The atmosphere is peaceful, simple, but full of faith.

In front of the temple is a large banyan tree courtyard where the elderly in the area come to play chess and chat every day, giving a warm feeling and truly reflecting the community's way of life.

For those who come to walk on Temple Street or stay in the Jordan-Yau Ma Tei area, we recommend stopping by to pay homage and receive good energy before continuing your trip.
