A Century of Faith and Architectural Aesthetics - Tai Hang Lotus Temple


Located in Lotus Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, the Lotus Palace in Tai Hang blends Chinese architectural design and local fishermen’s history and culture. Built in 1863, the temple is built on lotus stone, with the front hall standing high above the stone pillars and the back hall clinging to the boulders, symbolizing stability and protection. The belief in Guanyin has a long history. It is said that Guanyin once appeared here to bless the fishermen who went out to sea to return safely.

Every Mid-Autumn Festival, the fire dragon dance in Tai Hang begins here, where firelight and incense intertwine, linking community and faith. Lotus Palace is not only a place for praying for blessings, but also a place where people can feel the tenacity and respect for heaven and blessings of Hong Kong people.

Route highlights:
It is recommended to visit in the morning, the Lotus Palace in O Hang is open year-round and is free to visit from 07:30-17:00. Once you enter the main entrance, you can first see the stone stairs and antique gatehouse in front of the palace. The main hall is dedicated to Guanyin, and the incense is flourishing. Many devotees come to offer incense and pray for blessings. Remember to pay attention to the surrounding stone walls and wooden structures inside the palace, which retain many traces of Qing Dynasty craftsmanship, the painted beams and columns, carved windows are worth a closer look.
