Houston Museum of Natural Science Review
⭐ Rating: 457/5
📍 Location: Hermann Park (easy access via Metro Rail)
💰 Entry: $25 adults (free Thursdays 2-5pm)
🔥 HOT TAKE: Best dinosaur exhibits outside Jurassic Park! The paleontology hall will blow your mind with its massive T-rex and interactive displays. The butterfly center (extra $9) is a magical 85°F tropical oasis - ironic relief from Houston's heat.
✔️ MUST-SEE:
• Giant gemstone collection (including a 1,869-carat citrine!)
• Planetarium shows (worth the upgrade)
• Egyptian mummies with CT scan displays
⚠️ WARNING:
• Crowded weekends - come at opening (9am)
• Parking $20 - arrive early or use Metro
• Some exhibits feel dated (looking at you, 90s-era space tech)
Children's Museum of Houston
⭐ Rating: 4.8/5
👶 Best for: Kids 2-12 years
💡 Pro Tip: Thursday nights are free!
This place makes science FUN - from the kid-sized city to the invention lab. The water play area is perfect for cooling off, but bring extra clothes! Downside? It gets chaotic on weekends - school hours are golden.
September Reality Check
All museums have AC, but walking between buildings/attractions in 100°F heat is brutal. Even locals avoid outdoor exhibits until October. Evenings are better, but some close at 5pm.
Local Secret: The Health Museum (small but awesome) has a walk-through human body exhibit and is usually less crowded. Great backup for when the big museums are packed!
