Stone Stair Terrace | Explore Taiwan's Eastern Coastal Erosional Rocks and Monoclinal Hills

📍 Location
The Stone Stair Terrace Recreation Area in Fengbin Township, Hualien County, is one of the most iconic geological landscapes along Taiwan's east coast. It features classic "monoclinal hills" and pothole formations, located near Gangkou Village.

🚗 Transportation
• Driving: Head south along Provincial Highway 11. The Stone Stair Terrace has a parking lot, and you can walk into the park from there.
• Public Transport: Take the coastal bus from Hualien to "Stone Stair Terrace Station" or "Qizai Station," then walk to the entrance of the scenic area.

📝 Personal Experience
Stone Stair Terrace is truly a quiet yet awe-inspiring place. Stepping onto the gray-white rocks feels like entering another world, almost like a movie scene. The monoclinal hill gently slopes upward on one side, while the other side dramatically drops off as if swallowed by the sea, creating a striking visual contrast. Although the climb is short, standing atop the hill and gazing at the potholes and coastline of Stone Stair Terrace gives you a "wow" moment.

The wind is strong, and the sound of the waves is intense, naturally calming your mind. On the day I visited, there were only a few scattered groups of tourists. Enjoying the sea breeze while looking out at the Pacific Ocean was a peaceful experience without the usual crowds. However, since there’s almost no shade, it gets sunny quickly, so remember to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.

Overall, it’s a great place to relax, breathe, and connect with the sea. If you’re not in a rush, take your time to walk and explore. The east coast of Hualien has a unique charm that makes you want to linger.
