#Chinese Architecture

The Lao Ma Temple stage was originally an open space opposite the Shantou Lao Ma Temple, which was built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1760-1820 AD). During major folk festivals such as the 15th day of the first lunar month and the 23rd day of the third lunar month, the birthday of Mazu, a stage was built to hold performances mainly based on paper shadow plays. At other times, it was used as a trade market and was historically known as "Ma Temple Front".

The style of the Laoma Palace stage is a combination of Chinese and Western styles. The exterior walls of the building are made of red plain bricks, colored glass and large-opening teak doors and windows. As you enter the Laoma Palace stage, you will see a statue of Mazu that is more than two meters tall. The entire seat of the Mazu statue is carved from white marble. The entire piece of white marble, weighing more than 4 tons, was produced in Sichuan and transported to Fujian for crafting.

The Laoma Palace stage hall is centered on the stage, which runs through the second floor and becomes the visual center of the entire space. The second-floor corridor is supported by large teak pillars. The overall architectural style is very Chaoshan, and it is very photogenic.
