Nanxun Ancient Town One-Day Tour Guide
Key Highlights
Nanxun Ancient Town is famous for its combination of Chinese and Western architecture and profound cultural heritage. It has both the elegance of the Jiangnan water town and the boldness of modern merchants. Strolling through the ancient town, you can feel the cultural heritage of "Nine Miles and Three Senior Grand Secretaries, Ten Miles and Two Ministers" and experience the legendary wealth of "Four Elephants, Eight Bulls, and Seventy-Two Golden Dogs."
Itinerary Suggestions
Morning: Start from the Hundred Buildings and enjoy the Ming Dynasty residential buildings along the river to feel the atmosphere of the waterside residents. Then go to the former residence of Zhang Shiming to appreciate the fusion of French floor tiles and Jiangnan brick carvings.
Noon: Taste the Shuangjiao noodles at "Changxing Pavilion." The combination of crispy fish and fried eel is a must-try.
Afternoon: Visit Jiaye Library to touch the ink fragrance of ancient books. Then stroll through Xiaolianzhuang and feel the elegance of the garden by the lotus pond.
Evening: Take a gondola through Tongjin Bridge and watch the sunset gild the white walls and black tiles. The Jiangnan folk songs sung by the boatman add to the charm.
Useful Tips
The ancient town is free to enter. A joint ticket for small attractions is about CNY 85 (including the former residence of Zhang Shiming, Xiaolianzhuang, etc.).
It is recommended to stay at "Huaji Aesthetics Homestay." The Japanese-style courtyard complements the temperament of the ancient town.
Specialties include "Xun Hoof" and "Water Chestnut and Tangerine Cake." The latter was once a tea snack for Empress Dowager Cixi.
