Several underground reservoirs have been discovered in the historic district of the old city of Istanbul, which is registered as a World Heritage Site!
The largest and most impressive reservoir in Istanbul is located to the west of Hagia Sophia☝️
It is also called "Yerebatan Sarayi" (Underground Palace) because the marble columns look like a palace!
When you go all the way from the entrance, you will see two Medusa heads under the pillars, one sideways and the other upside down. 🐍
Medusa is said to have the power to turn anything she sees into stone. 😱
It is not clear why they were placed upside down or sideways.
Because it is underground, it is dimly lit, and the sight of the illuminated pillars rising from the water is fantastic and makes you feel like you are on an adventure. 😅
