March 2023, Istanbul

Walking in the old streets and alleys of Istanbul, in addition to the traces of history, what I find most irresistible is definitely the aroma of delicious food wafting in the air. Türkiye's street food is the most immediate and authentic taste memory of your travels. Every time you turn a corner, you may encounter a small but beautiful food adventure.
The first thing I fell in love with was the Simit (sesame bagel), which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It is like a Turkish version of bagel. You can often see street carts lined up in a row early in the morning, and the aroma of hot sesame seeds makes people stop. Paired with a cup of Turkish black tea, it’s the perfect start to the day.
If you are tired of walking, you can have some roasted corn (Mısır) or chestnuts (Kestane), which are the most common street snacks for Turkish people in the afternoon. It is especially delicious to eat while walking near the Galata Bridge and looking at the sparkling waters of the Golden Horn.
Türkiye's street food is not only cheap and delicious, but also a way to immerse yourself in local life. If you come here, you might as well slow down and follow the aroma. You might come across the "destined snack" of your life!
