Now I see why it was the magnificent century of the Ottoman Empire 💔
As a huge fan of the series, visiting the mosque built by the order of Suleiman the Magnificent was one of my biggest dreams in Istanbul! 🙌 I was absolutely overwhelmed with emotions.
It’s been almost 500 years, yet the thought that these very stones were once walked on by sultans, their families, viziers and scholars of that era… it quite literally took my breath away 🕌💭
A few fascinating facts about the mosque and its creator:
1️⃣ Süleymaniye Mosque was built between 1550–1557 by the legendary architect Mimar Sinan under the order of Sultan Suleiman I.
2️⃣ It is the largest imperial mosque in Istanbul, which symbolised the power of the Ottoman Empire.
3️⃣ The architecture beautifully combines Byzantine and Islamic traditions and creates one of the most harmonious structures in the city.
4️⃣ Inside the complex, you’ll find the tombs of Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Hürrem Sultan (Roxelana)❤️
5️⃣ Suleiman I reigned for 46 years, longer than any other Ottoman sultan, and his era is remembered as the “Golden Age” of the empire.
For me, this place was not just a landmark but a true journey into history.
💭 Have you watched the series? Who’s your fav character?
