This summer, I finally visited the Dolomites, often referred to as "God's Backyard," and discovered that fairytales do exist! The meadows, wooden chalets, and snow-capped peaks beneath the Alps look like they came straight out of a painting.
Starting from Milan Airport, take a train to Bolzano and transfer to Ortisei for the most convenient stay. Whether you're taking cable cars or visiting attractions, everything is super smooth. Here's a recommended easy hiking route for everyone👇
Day 1: Alpe di Siusi (7km, 3 hours)
Take the red cable car up the mountain, and you'll be stunned by the sight of "Europe's largest alpine meadow"! A UNESCO World Heritage Site truly lives up to its name. Along the way, you'll see many people picnicking with their dogs and kids, making you want to join in the chill vibes immediately! The Dolomite peaks glow under the sunlight, and the wooden huts and streams make it feel like a scene straight out of "Heidi."✨
Day 2: Seceda Ridge (9km, 4 hours)
As the cable car pierces through the clouds, the jagged Seceda Ridge suddenly appears—so this is what the "Emoji Mountain" really looks like! A 3-hour hike to the top offers breathtaking views: lush green valleys on one side and rugged cliffs on the other, so vast you'll want to shout out loud. On the way down, you'll pass by wooden huts and pine trees in the valley, and even the air feels fresher!
Day 3: Val di Funes + St. Johann Church (10km, 5 hours)
Take the 340 bus to the village and hike through fir forests (we even encountered marmots!) to finally witness the sunset casting its glow on the church. The awe-inspiring scene is beyond words. The golden light against the snowy mountains is so beautiful you'll want to sit quietly and take it all in for the entire evening.🌄
💡Tips: Be sure to download the route on AllTrails, bring trekking poles and snacks, and pack rain gear as the weather changes quickly. Start early to avoid crowds, and if there are no cable cars after sunset, don't hesitate to ask locals for a ride down the mountain!
