Located in the northeast of Jeju Island (제주도), Jeju Manjanggul (만장굴) is the largest limestone cave in South Korea and one of the island's most popular tourist attractions. Because it is far away from the city, it is not as crowded as other attractions and the environment is very quiet. There are many peculiar stone pillars and stalagmites in Manjang Grotto. This unique landform was formed due to historical crustal movement and erosion.
The total length of Manjanggul is over 13 kilometers, but only about 1 kilometer of it is open to tourists. This area is known as the "Fantasy Road" because of its beautiful limestone structures and colorful lights that impress people.
If you want to explore Manjanggul, the best way is to join a local guided tour to learn about the history and ecology of the place, while also reducing damage to the cave. If you go to explore on your own, please be sure to abide by local regulations and do not damage the stone pillars and stalagmites in the cave to maintain the ecological balance and original appearance of the cave.
The temperature inside Manjang Cave is very low, remaining at around 12 degrees Celsius all year round, so visitors need to wear warm clothes and suitable shoes for exploration.
