Jiaxing City Nanhu District

Nanhu District, under the jurisdiction of Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, is the main urban area of Jiaxing City. It is located in the northern part of the Hangjiahu Plain in Zhejiang Province, bordering Shanghai to the east, Hangzhou to the west, Suzhou to the north, and facing Hangzhou Bay to the south. It serves as the economic, political, cultural, and commercial center of Jiaxing City. As of August 2025, Nanhu District administers 9 subdistricts and 4 towns.

Nanhu District has long been known as the "Silk Capital and Land of Fish and Rice," enjoying the reputation of "a major metropolis east of the Yangtze River." The area boasts a pleasant climate and abundant resources, including black pottery, bamboo carvings, Nanhu water chestnuts, and Wufangzhai zongzi (rice dumplings). Nanhu District is a famous historical city, cultural city, water city, and green city in Jiangnan, rich in natural and cultural treasures, and has produced many notable figures throughout history. It has a profound cultural heritage and is the starting point of the Chinese revolutionary Red Boat, the origin of the Majiabang culture, and the birthplace of Confucian merchant culture. Nanhu District is also one of the first pilot areas for Zhejiang's high-quality development and the construction of a common prosperity demonstration zone.
