The westernmost gate of the Great Wall, Jiayuguan

The Great Wall of China starts from Shanhaiguan in the east
and ends at Jiayuguan in the west.

It was also the gateway to the Western Regions of the Silk Road in the old days.

When you leave the magnificent Jiayuguan gate, a desolate desert unfolds before you.. It feels like a different world than before.

Now you can ride camels and ATVs
and fly around the area by helicopter
but it was a place where you could indirectly feel how daunting it must have been for people back then when they saw such nature.
