Walking in a Painting: The Delight of Changing Scenery Step by Step at Laiman

The ideal of landscape painting proposed by Northern Song Dynasty painter Guo Xi—“walkable, viewable, livable, and wanderable”—is perfectly embodied at Laiman. Covering more than 5,000 square meters, the space is designed as a new Chinese-style three-courtyard layout, truly achieving “a scene at every step, changing scenery with every move.” From the spacious main hall to the quiet corridor academy, then strolling along the winding water channel to the starry sky pool, every corner and every glance reveals a carefully composed Chinese painting. Autumn adds the richest colors to this painting—the golden yellow of ginkgo, the lush green of bamboo, and the deep blue of the sky. I feel as if I am no longer a tourist but a leisurely hermit walking within the painting, living and playing in this vast three-dimensional landscape, experiencing the refined pleasures of the ancients.
