⭐ If you also love nostalgia and enjoy finding those forgotten little beauties during your travels, then Kaiyuan is definitely a great choice worth a short stay. When the industrial-style vintage little train slowly arrives, it feels like instantly traveling back to the last century. The sound of the wheels colliding with the rails is the voice of time settling. And the starting point of this wonderful journey—Kaiyuan Railway Station—is itself a vivid history book.
⭐ Kaiyuan Station is located on Dongfeng Road, Kaiyuan City, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It was built in 1909 and was originally called Amizhou Station. It is the only second-class station on the Yunnan section of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and holds a crucial position on the railway. In 2003, due to severe aging of the Kunhe Railway line, Kaiyuan Station stopped passenger services and only handled freight. It was not until 2018, relying on the existing meter-gauge railway, that it was transformed into a north-south rail transit shuttle train, becoming the sightseeing little train it is today.
⭐ The Kaiyuan little train runs a total length of 11.6 kilometers, leisurely shuttling between the city and nature. There are 7 stations along the way, each with unique scenery and stories, and every frame is full of vintage charm, making it really great for photography:
📷 If you have time, you can buy a ticket to capture the train winding forward. But be careful and do not stick your body out of the window.
📷 After arriving at the final stop, Data Station, the train will stay for about 15 minutes, where you can photograph the train turning around.
📷 If you don’t have enough time, you can wait at the station for the train to arrive. It is recommended to wear qipao or Republic of China-era vintage clothing for a more atmospheric photo.
