Tsurugaoka Hachimangu in Kamakura

#asiabudgetchallenge I visited Tsurugaoka Hachimangū in Kamakura, the city’s most important Shinto shrine. Originally founded in 1063, it’s dedicated to Hachiman, the samurai god of war. The shrine sits majestically at the end of Wakamiya Ōji, a long cherry tree-lined approach perfect for strolls.

Budge: The visit cost me nothing—it’s free, unless you choose to explore the small museum (around ¥200–¥300).

My top travel tip is to go just after sunrise or during weekday mornings to avoid the crowds.

Best hack: Climb up to the main hall for panoramic views of Kamakura, then explore the koi ponds and side paths for hidden photo spots and peaceful moments away from the busy walkway.
