Located in the Higashi Chaya District, the tea house 'Shima' is registered as a National Important Cultural Property.
This building was constructed during the Edo period and still retains its original form!
It was a place where people enjoyed performing arts during the Edo period.
Inside the building, there are explanations provided throughout, allowing visitors to learn about its history and usage, making the visit even more enjoyable!
Additionally, for an extra fee, you can enjoy matcha and traditional Japanese sweets (jo-namagashi) in the tea room! The jo-namagashi is specially made for tea ceremonies by a shop that does not have a storefront, so you can only taste it here! The sweets were incredibly smooth and delicious! Sipping tea while admiring the courtyard view from the tea room was an exceptional experience!
