Going to Higashi Tea Street in Kanazawa is like walking into a time tunnel of the Edo period. The traditional "Machiya" architecture is completely preserved here, with wooden lattices and dark exterior walls, exuding a historical atmosphere in the sunlight and Japanese wind.
Machiya is an architectural style of former merchants and residences. The first floor is a store space, and the second floor is used for living or entertaining guests. Walking in the alleys, you can see many teahouses, geisha houses and specialty grocery stores that are still in business. The faint sound of shamisen comes from behind the window lattices. Although it has been modernized, it still retains the artistic style of the past.
Why not walk into one of the sweet places converted from machiyas, sit down and have a cup of matcha, and savor this quiet place. Higashi Tea Street is not only a check-in attraction, but also a place to experience the culture and architectural aesthetics of Japanese townspeople.
📍Check-in location: Higashiya Tea Street, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture
