[Former Karatsu Bank Tatsuno Kingo Memorial Museum]

#DomesticTravelRecord

Historical building supervised by Tatsuno Kingo in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture

The former Karatsu Bank head office was completed in 1912

It was built at the request of Tatsuno Kingo, an architect from Karatsu who created Tokyo Station, and his classmate Oshima Kotaro, who was the driving force behind Karatsu's modern industry.

At the time, the national project "Tokyo Station" was under construction, so the design of Karatsu Bank was entrusted to his beloved disciple Tanaka Minoru.

Tanaka, taking into consideration that it was his master's hometown, adopted the "Tatsuno style" for the overall design of the building, and as an architect "Tanaka Minoru", he incorporated his own unique design using red brick-like tiles, etc.

It continued to operate as a bank until 1997, and was donated to Karatsu City in the same year.

Admission is free. It has a retro atmosphere and is a wonderful building.
