Wakato Bridge and Wakato Ferry are famous routes connecting Tobata and Wakamatsu in Kitakyushu. The red suspension bridge of Wakato Bridge is lit up at night, creating a unique atmosphere along with the surrounding factory night view. The Wakato Ferry that passes under the bridge is affectionately known as the "Ponpon Boat" and although it is only a 3-minute boat ride, it was a luxurious time to enjoy the city, sea and bridge all at once. It costs 100 yen and bicycles are allowed. It is a great way to get around for locals, but also a great way to sightsee. If you ride at dusk, the red silhouette of the bridge reflected on the water is very impressive. The retro townscape remains, and it is fun to stroll around after getting off the boat. If you have time, it is best to experience both crossing the bridge and riding the boat.
