This is a green park located in a mountain in Yahatanishi-ku, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, that I stopped by on my trip to Kitakyushu.

This mountain, also known as Shiroyama or Dohaku-san, was once home to Kurosaki Castle, one of the edge castles of Fukuoka Castle.

Kuroda Nagamasa, who entered Chikuzen Province as a feudal lord with 520,000 koku of land due to his achievements in the Battle of Sekigahara in 1602, began construction of Fukuoka Castle the following year.

At the same time, to strengthen the defense of the border, he built six edge castles, including Kurosaki Castle, Wakamatsu Castle (Nakajima Castle), Okuma Castle, Takatori Castle, Koishiwara Castle, and Soyo Castle, by the time of the 15th year of the same year.

He also appointed Inoue Suou-no-fusa, one of the Kuroda Twenty-Four Knights, as the lord of Kurosaki Castle. However, in 1614, the shogunate issued a one-castle-per-province order, and the castle ceased to function after just over a dozen years.

Later, in 1636, the castle's stone walls were used as a bank for the development of new fields, but now only a small part of the stone wall remains on the mountaintop.
