Wat Wachkamkachathip, originally named Wat Salak Khok, was announced in 1882 and received the royal charter of the boundary on January 26, 1903, when King Chulalongkorn, at the age of 31, visited Koh Chang and Wat Salak Khok. Part of the royal letter in 1884 states: “In the morning, board a rowboat, a fireboat tows it to Salak Khok, and go up to the houses at the temple in that district. The officials in front and inside collected money to offer to the monks. The people asked to step on the place to build the ordination hall because the temple did not yet have an ordination hall. Therefore, we were given the right to build an ordination hall for them, and named it Wat Wachkamkachathip. The name Wat Wachkamkachathip was bestowed by King Chulalongkorn. At that time, the temple did not have an ordination hall. The people therefore asked for permission to build a place for the construction of the chapel, which is the current location.
