Imago Shopping Mall is one of the largest and most vibrant malls in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, featuring a mix of high-end and branded stores. During my family trip to KK, we spent a lovely afternoon exploring the mall — not just for shopping, but also enjoying the lively cultural performances and delicious food.
The cultural performance took place at the Welcome Point, located on the ground floor near the south entrance and concierge area. These shows are held regularly throughout the day, typically every two hours from around noon to 9 p.m.
The highlight was the traditional Magunatip, or bamboo dance, performed by dancers from the Kadazan-Dusun community. The rhythmic clapping of bamboo poles and the dancers’ swift footwork were mesmerizing — a wonderful way to experience Sabah’s rich cultural heritage.
After shopping and watching the performances, we headed to SOULed OUT @ Imago for dinner. We ordered a mix of local and international favourites:
▶️ Nachos – served warm and crispy, generously topped with melted cheese, salsa, jalapeños, and sour cream — a great starter to share.
▶️ Chicken & Beef Satay – perfectly grilled skewers with a smoky aroma, served with creamy peanut sauce and a side of cucumber and onion slices.
▶️ Paneer Peas Makhani – a rich and comforting Indian dish made of soft paneer cubes and green peas cooked in a mildly spiced, buttery tomato gravy, best enjoyed with fragrant rice or naan.
▶️ Sirloin Steak – tender and juicy, cooked to perfection and accompanied by vegetables and a flavourful sauce.
The combination of hearty dishes, warm ambiance, and friendly service made our dining experience delightful.
With shopping, food, and cultural performances all under one roof, Imago Shopping Mall offered the perfect mix of modern comfort and local charm. We truly had a wonderful and memorable day in Kota Kinabalu!
