EQ Kuala Lumpur exemplifies a commitment to environmental sustainability through a range of innovative initiatives aimed at reducing its ecological footprint and promoting green practices.
Green Building Index Gold Certification:
In February 2023, EQ Kuala Lumpur’s Equatorial Plaza achieved the Green Building Index (GBI) Gold certification, making it the first hotel in Kuala Lumpur to receive this recognition. This certification reflects the hotel’s adherence to rigorous standards in energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable building practices.
Energy Efficiency Measures:
The hotel has incorporated both passive and active design strategies to enhance energy efficiency. Features such as a high-efficiency chiller plant, efficient lighting systems, and a waste heat recovery system contribute to significant energy savings. Notably, Equatorial Plaza operates at 55% greater energy efficiency than conventional benchmarks, resulting in an estimated reduction of 6.5 million kg CO₂ emissions annually—equivalent to planting 300,000 trees.
Sustainable Construction Practices:
The building utilizes sustainable construction materials and incorporates design elements that harmonize with the local climate, minimizing thermal heat gain and optimizing natural daylight. These practices underscore the hotel’s commitment to eco-friendly construction and design.
Through these comprehensive efforts, EQ Kuala Lumpur sets a benchmark for sustainable hospitality, demonstrating that luxury and environmental responsibility can coexist harmoniously.
