Gulangyu Island in Xiamen is not very large, located just 600 meters away from Xiamen's downtown area. You need to take a ferry to get there, but be aware that the ferry schedule is quite sparse. The overall feel of the island is somewhat similar to Taiwan's Penghu or Kaohsiung's Cijin. A few years ago, it was officially listed as a World Heritage Site. The most famous feature is its modern Western-style buildings, which come in various styles and unique designs. Notable examples include the British and Japanese consulates, the old site of HSBC's residence, the Bagua Building, the Trinity Building, the Huang Rongyuan Hall, and the Guancai Building. There are truly too many to count, with at least dozens of well-known structures, each with its own unique charm, making it a feast for the eyes.
