A strolling garden in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, designated as a national scenic spot and historic site, where wabi-sabi breathes.
In the early Edo period (1632), the first lord of the Higo Hosokawa clan, Hosokawa Tadatoshi, built a teahouse, and the garden was completed during the time of the third lord, Hosokawa Ami.
With an area of approximately 73,000 square meters, the garden features an artificial hill and a flat area that leads to it, and there is a theory that they are modeled after Mount Fuji and scenic spots on the Tokaido.
In the garden, where Aso's underground water springs out, there is also a Noh theater and the Kokin Denju no Ma, which was moved from the Kyoto Imperial Palace in 1912, and you can enjoy a stroll while looking at the pond and pine trees.
