Suizenji Jojuen Garden in Kumamoto

Suizenji Jojuen Garden in Kumamoto is a classic circuit-style garden inspired by the landscapes of the Tokaido's Fifty-Three Stations. With its ponds, small bridges, artificial hills, and meticulously pruned pine trees arranged harmoniously, every step offers a new view, creating a poetic atmosphere reminiscent of the Edo period. It is truly beautiful and highly recommended for anyone visiting Kumamoto.

On the northern side of the garden lies Izumi Shrine, built during the Meiji era by retainers of the Kumamoto domain. The shrine primarily honors the first lord of the Kumamoto domain, his wife, and successive Hosokawa domain lords. Visitors can pray here for peace, health, business prosperity, and academic success.

Transportation: Take the Kumamoto City Tram to "Suizenji Koen-mae Station," then walk about 3 minutes.
