Kushiro, Hokkaido, a city with beautiful sunsets
From Tokyo (Haneda), it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes by plane.
In the summer, there are flights from Osaka (Kansai Airport). It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get there.
It takes about 40 minutes by car from Kushiro Airport to the city center, so it is easily accessible.
In the summer, the city is cool with low temperatures and fog, and the fog that turns orange at night is fantastic.
Here are 7 places I recommend.
① Kushiro River (night)
The orange street lights of the Kushiro River at night are beautiful and give it an irresistible European feel.
② Suehirocho (downtown)
Kushiro's downtown is quite prosperous and lively.
There are many izakayas and bars, and the food is delicious.
③ MOO (complex)
If you're looking to buy souvenirs, this is the place to go.
The buildings have unique shapes and are fun to look at.
④ Nusamai Bridge and Nusamai Park (Sunset, Night View)
This bridge has a European atmosphere, and if you go there in the evening, you can see one of the three most beautiful sunsets in the world.
If you go there at night, you can see a calming view.
⑤ Benten-ga-hama (Coastline)
This is a sandy beach that only locals know about.
The road before entering the beach has an atmosphere like Kamakura in Kanagawa.
⑥ Kushiro Marshland Hosooka Observatory
It takes about 45 minutes by car from Kushiro city.
The view from the observation deck here is like Africa.
⑦ Akanko Onsen
It is in Kushiro city, but it takes about 2 hours by car from the city center.
Lake Akan is right in front of you, and it is recommended to learn about Ainu culture at Ainu Kotan and take a bath in the hot springs.
⑧ Izumiya (Spakatsu)
This is a Western restaurant that has been in Kushiro for a long time.
You can eat spakatsu, the soul food of Kushiro.
There are many other delicious Western dishes, so it is highly recommended.
