This is the Keage Incline.
Long ago, this section of the Lake Biwa Canal connected Kyoto and Lake Biwa. Boats were transported across the steep drop in elevation by carts on rails. This is the site of that canal.
Nowadays, it's a popular Kyoto tourist spot, bustling during the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. This photo was taken during cherry blossom season. 🌸 Walking along the rails, you'll feel as if you're being sucked into a tunnel of cherry blossoms lit up by the evening streetlights. ✨
Early mornings are also recommended for cherry blossom photography. ♪ There are fewer people, allowing you to capture photos from afar.
Access: 4-minute walk from Keage Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line.
