Pro Tip: Beat the crowds by arriving early! Even if mornings aren’t usually your thing, this is one exception you’ll be glad you made 😂
Why go: Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto’s most iconic spots, famous for its thousands of bright red torii gates that wind up the mountain trails. It’s dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice and prosperity, and you’ll see plenty of fox statues along the way—these little foxes are believed to be Inari’s messengers.
Cost: Totally free!
Getting there: Take the metro 🚇 to Ryukokudai-mae-fukakusa Station, then walk about 8 minutes (550m) and you’re there.
Tip for the visit: The earlier you go, the more magical (and peaceful!) the walk through the torii tunnels will feel, before the crowds roll in.
