[Kyoto Prefecture] Nanzenji Temple - Enjoy the spectacular view from the Sanmon Gate

Sanmon is the main gate of a temple that one must pass through in order to attain enlightenment in Buddhist training, and is one of the seven buildings of the Zen sect (mountain gate, Buddha hall, lecture hall, monks' hall, kitchen, toilet, and bathhouse). Nanzenji's Sanmon is also known as the "Tenka Ryumon" (Dragon Gate), and the upper tower is called Goho-ro (Goho Tower), and it is counted as one of Japan's three greatest gates. It was designated an Important Cultural Property by the government in 1899. It is famous for the line, "What a magnificent view! What a magnificent view."
