Kinkakuji Temple, which I learned about as a child. Its official name is Rokuon-ji Temple. It is commonly called Kinkaku-ji Temple because the Shariden (relic hall) "Kinkaku" is particularly famous. It is said to have begun when Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, the third shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, inherited the villa of Kinkakuji Kintsune from the Kamakura period and built the mountain villa Kitayamaden. The gardens and architecture centered around Kinkakuji are said to represent the Pure Land in this world, and the culture of this era is particularly called Kitayama culture. After Yoshimitsu's death, it became a temple according to his will.
