Nanzenji Temple is another important Zen Buddhist temple in Sakyo World, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan . It is the headquarters of the Nanzenji sect of the Rinzai sect. Nanzenji Temple was built in 1291 by Emperor Kameyama as a retirement home. It is a very spacious temple surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Inside are many smaller temples. The temple is also famous for the magnificent Suirokaku, an ancient canal bridge made of red bricks that transported water from Lake Biwa for construction. It is a place of beautiful architecture and many historical and cultural relics. The environment around the temple is quiet, beautiful, and shady, and it is worth a visit.
