Nanzenji Temple｜Enter the green and ancient Kyoto

Nanzenji Temple is located at the foot of Kyoto's Sakyo East Mountain. It has a history of about 700 years. It consists of many beautiful buildings and is surrounded by green trees. It is the highest temple of Japanese Zen Buddhism. You can enjoy Kyoto's traditional dry landscape garden and learn about Japanese Nanzen Buddhism.

Nanzenji Temple is very popular. The huge three gates and the red brick waterway pavilion (built in the Meiji period 1868-1912) have become a must-go hotspot for tourists. There are stairs on the side of the giant gate that can be climbed to the top, and the garden scenery can be enjoyed from a high altitude. The Western-style red bricks of the waterway pavilion have a unique flavor, and it is beautiful in the green or maple season.

There are also Philosopher's Path and Ginkakuji Temple nearby for visits, and a one-day trip can be arranged.
