Jingoji Temple

Located on Mount Takao

northwest of Kyoto City

It is a Shingon Buddhist temple that worships Yakushi Nyorai

or the Buddha of Medicine.

Since the temple is situated on a hillside in the countryside

it offers beautiful scenery

and is also famous for its autumn colors.

The Kondō Hall houses a statue of the Buddha

and the atmosphere is filled with reverence.

The grounds are spacious, with various halls and shrines to explore

and trails leading through the forest to a sub-shrine and a clifftop viewpoint.

One of the most fun things to do at Jingo-ji Temple

is toss a ceramic yaku-yōke

off the cliff into the valley below to ward off bad luck.

The stone steps leading up to the temple can be quite intimidating

but there are restaurants and resting areas along the way for those who want to take a break.

Although Jingo-ji Temple and the surrounding temples are a bit far

away, it is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of

the city and get in touch with nature.
