Toyouke Chaya|A Century-Old Family-Style Tofu Cuisine!

Kyoto is famous for its tofu due to the quality of its water. I decided to try a family-run tofu restaurant with a Google rating above 4. Toyouke Chaya was established in 1897, making it over a century old! The ground floor sells tofu and various tofu products, while the upper two floors house a charming restaurant.

The tofu hot pot set felt like a feast, and it was only 1,540 yen. You can't help but admire the Japanese dedication to food. I particularly enjoyed the cold tofu appetizer, which was refreshing and subtly sweet. The entire set was light and mild in flavor. You can even get a free refill of the cold tofu, making it a delightful home-style meal! However, there was so much tofu that I felt full and started craving something else, like meat 🤣.

Located right across from Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, you can take a peaceful stroll around the temple after your meal. If you see a long queue across from the shrine, that's the place! Luckily, I didn’t have to wait in line during my visit. 👍
