Kiyomizu-dera Temple is located on Otowa Hill in eastern Kyoto. It was founded in 778 AD by the monk Enchin and later supported by Shogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. The name "Kiyomizu" translates to "pure water," derived from the Otowa Waterfall that flows through the temple grounds. The water is believed to be sacred, and drinking it is said to grant blessings for health, success, and love.

The highlight of the temple is its large wooden stage extending from the Main Hall, constructed entirely without nails and supported by wooden pillars over 13 meters high. This stage offers breathtaking views of Kyoto, especially during the spring and autumn seasons.

🛍️ Surrounding Atmosphere and Access
The path to the temple passes through Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka streets, traditional stone-paved roads lined with shops selling souvenirs, Japanese sweets, and local crafts.

To reach the temple, take bus number 207 from Shijo Karasuma Station and get off at the Kiyomizu-michi stop. From there, walk up Matsubara-dori Street for about 10-15 minutes.
