Kyoto | Must visit Kennin-ji Temple

Kennin-ji Temple is located in Higashiyama, Kyoto, and is the oldest Zen temple in the city. It was founded during the Kamakura period and is one of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kyoto.

The temple grounds are actually quite large, and if you take your time to walk through and explore, it can take a while. Inside, there are many historic buildings and traditional gardens. The courtyards are filled with lush greenery, creating a peaceful and calming atmosphere.

Kennin-ji is also not far from Hanamikoji Street — after your visit, you can easily grab some matcha treats or stroll around for a bit of shopping.
