Arashiyama Nomiya Shrine in autumn can be said to be a must-visit hidden place in Kyoto. The most famous of the Nomiya Shrine is the black log torii, which blends in with the surrounding bamboo forest and is a beautiful scenery limited to autumn. From Arashiyama Station, walk through the path and slowly be surrounded by the tranquility and nature of your surroundings, feeling the quaint elegance of Japan’s Heian period.
Recommended tour routes:
From Arashiyama Station, walk through the famous bamboo forest path and you will reach the gate of Nomiya Shrine in about 10 minutes. The bamboo shadows are dancing along the road, the air is fresh, and the autumn leaves and bamboo forests intersect. When you arrive at the shrine, remember to check in at the Kuroki Torii first; come in the morning and feel the tranquility of the shrine when there are fewer people. The main hall of the shrine is small and simple, suitable for a slow walk. After visiting, you can stroll the surrounding paths and discover hidden small shops or small tea houses.
Must-play items and photo spots:
1. Kuroki Torii: Built from unprocessed logs with a special shape, it is a landmark of the shrine, most romantic under the cover of autumn leaves.
2. Bamboo Forest Trail: On the way to or from the shrine, both morning and dusk, the bamboo shadow setting sun is beautiful, great for walking and photography.
3. Wishing Stone: There is a prayer stone in the shrine, you can touch to make a wish for luck, very characteristic.
4. Autumn Leaves Beauty: November's autumn leaves are at their peak, the scenery is bright, suitable for photography.
Attraction tips:
1. It is recommended to go in the morning or at dusk to avoid the crowds and take photos more quietly.
2. Remember to bring a light jacket in autumn, the bamboo forest is slightly cool.
3. Those interested can attend a ceremony or worship ceremony to experience the traditional customs firsthand.
4. Need to walk some distance, wearing comfortable shoes is most convenient.
5. The shrine is open all day year-round with flexible hours, suitable for free travelers to plan their own route.
Notes:
The shrine is not large, please keep quiet and respect worshipers, and pay attention to etiquette when taking pictures; most shops around the shrine close before 5 pm, want to buy specialty souvenirs to arrange in advance.
