Late summer in Arashiyama is a gentle transition where the lush greenery lingers while hints of autumn quietly emerge.
The summer heat softens, yet the Katsura River still sparkles with emerald waves, and the waters beneath the Togetsukyo Bridge reflect the vibrant bamboo groves and distant mountains. 🎋 The breeze rustles through the bamboo paths, carrying the last traces of coolness, its whispering sound reminiscent of summer nights. Sunlight filters through, scattering dappled patterns on the stone paths, like a slow-motion film capturing fleeting moments. 📸
At the Nonomiya Shrine, the wisteria trellis has shed its blossoms, leaving behind a deep green shade. The ema (wooden prayer plaques) sway gently in the breeze, as if murmuring unfinished wishes. ⛩️ Strolling along the Hozugawa River, one might spot a small boat gliding by, the boatman humming an old tune as ripples spread across the water, pushing aside layers of green reflections, as if navigating through the seams of seasons.
From the riverside teahouses wafts the aroma of iced matcha. A bite of warabimochi brings a refreshing coolness to the heart. 🍵 Meanwhile, the Sagano Scenic Railway train passes by slowly, its windows framing golden rice fields and mountains shifting from green to brown—a subtle trace of autumn’s quiet footsteps.
