📍 Kyoto Nijo Castle (二条城) Visit Review
Located in the heart of Kyoto, Nijo Castle was one of the places where I could most closely experience Japanese history and culture. 🏯 The majestic stone walls and moat were impressive from the entrance, and once inside, the gardens and wooden buildings harmonized, creating a tranquil atmosphere. The grounds were well-maintained, and each building had information signs, making it easy to understand the historical background. Despite the large number of tourists, the spacious interior kept things from feeling overcrowded.
The most impressive part was the interior of the Ninomaru Palace (二の丸御殿). The restored building preserved gold leaf decorations and ornate folding screens, and the unique "creaking floor" (うグイス張り) structure, which creaked like a nightingale with every step, was a highlight. This sound, combined with the tranquility of the space, evoked the atmosphere of a bygone palace. The garden also offers a different charm each season, famous for its cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage in fall. 🌸🍁
Admission is approximately 1,300 yen for adults, which is reasonable considering its size and state of preservation. Some areas restricted indoor photography, and the long route meant a leisurely stroll of about an hour and a half. Overall, this is a site that epitomizes Kyoto's historical symbolism and aesthetics, making it a must-add on any Kyoto itinerary. 📸
