Nijo Castle History and Architecture Intensive Course (Half-Day)
This course offers an in-depth, chronological exploration of the castle's key attractions, a symbol of the Tokugawa shogunate's authority.
• Morning/Afternoon (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM): Explore Nijo Castle's interior
• 9:00 AM: Enter Nijo Castle through the Higashi Otemon Gate.
• 9:30 AM: Admire the ornate and intricate carvings and decorations of the Karamon Gate and proceed to Ninomaru Palace.
• 10:00 AM: Visit the National Treasure Ninomaru Palace. Walk down the corridor called **Oiku-maru (鶯張り)** and admire the magnificent murals of the **Kano-ha (狩野派)** and the Ohiroma (大広間), the shogun's office.
• 11:30 AM: Stroll through **Ninomaru Garden (二の丸庭園)** and admire the beauty of a traditional Japanese landscape garden, including the pond and stone arrangements designed by Kobori Enshu.
• 12:30 PM: Climb to the **Tenshukaku Ruins (天守閣跡)** and reflect on the history while taking in the views of the entire castle and Kyoto city.
• Lunch (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM): Have lunch near Nijo Castle or on Oike Street.
