🏯Kyoto Kyoto Castle! Introducing Nijo Castle

The current Nijo Castle was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu to protect Kyoto and to serve as a residence when he visited the capital. It is the only surviving palace complex that has been designated a national treasure.
It is also known as the place where the Edo period began and ended, as it was here that the celebrations for Ieyasu's appointment as Shogun and the restoration of imperial rule by Keiki took place.
